Halloween in Pierce County: Where to Go in October and What the Market Is Doing

Fall around here gets dark early and rains sideways, and somehow that makes October better instead of worse. Pierce County goes all in on Halloween. There is a haunted house in a basement that used to store bodies, a zoo full of costumed kids, a parade through Proctor, and a barn in Lake Tapps that turns into the best party of the season.

I am Bobbie Jo Roth, a real estate broker with Skyline Properties. I live on Lake Tapps and I have been selling homes across Pierce County for more than 20 years. Here is my list for this October, plus an honest read on what the market is doing while everyone is out in costume.

The Barn at Wilson Farm, Lake Tapps

This is the one I tell everybody about. The Barn at Wilson Farm hosts its 6th Annual Spooktacular Halloween Party on Friday, October 30, with doors at 6:15 and music from 7 to 10. Trailer Park Casanova is playing this year, running through 80s, 90s, and 2000s hits, and there is a costume contest with prizes for best duo, most creative, and best classic Halloween costume. Tickets are $25.

A few things worth knowing before you go. The barn is a 1916 structure, which means the temperature inside is basically the temperature outside, so dress for a Washington night in October. No outside drinks, but beverages are available for purchase and water is free. And their address at 1425 210th Ave E can confuse GPS, so watch for the road sign at the private driveway rather than turning onto a side road.

If you have never been out there, the property also runs a vineyard, a grape stomp in September, u-pick blueberries in summer, and a farmhouse that operates as an Airbnb. It is one of the better things Lake Tapps has going for it, and it is exactly the kind of place people do not expect when they picture a Pierce County suburb.

For families with young kids

Point Defiance Zoo Boo runs October 17 and 18 from 9 to 3, and it is included with zoo admission or membership. Costumes, candy, and animals getting into pumpkins. Easy win for anyone under ten.

Northwest Trek in Eatonville does Hoot n Howl on October 16 and 17 and again October 23 and 24, from 5 to 9. You walk the animal paths at twilight with everything lit up and hit eight trick-or-treat stations along the way. They also do Pumpkin Chomp and Stomp on October 3 and 4, where the animals get pumpkins and destroy them, which is more entertaining than it sounds.

The Tacoma Halloween Parade is October 17 in the Proctor Business District. Free, all ages, glowing floats, food trucks, and vendors.

Lakewold Gardens in Lakewood runs All Hallows Eve October 17, 18, 24, and 25 from 6 to 9, and they do a free trick or treat scavenger hunt on Halloween night.

For anyone who wants to be genuinely scared

Fright House Station is Tacoma's big haunted house, open October 1 through 31 at Freighthouse Square near the Tacoma Dome. It sits in a 15,000 square foot concrete basement that was actually used to store bodies during World War II. Not a marketing line. That is the real history of the building.

Maris Farms in Buckley runs its Haunted Woods alongside the daytime festival, and it is the closest serious haunt to the Bonney Lake and Enumclaw side of the county. Buy tickets online ahead of time.

Meeker Mansion in Puyallup does a haunted house October 23 and 24, and Washington State Horror Con lands at the fairgrounds October 23 through 25.

Halloween night itself

Boo-allup runs downtown Puyallup from 3 to 6 on October 31 with dozens of businesses handing out candy. LeMay in Tacoma hosts a free trunk or treat from 3 to 7 with food trucks and a trunk decorating competition. The Fife Community Center runs a free Halloween Carnival from 5 to 7 with a sensory-friendly area, which is a thoughtful detail a lot of events skip.

Dates and hours shift, so check each event's page before you load the car.

What the Pierce County market is actually doing

While everyone is out picking pumpkins, the market has settled into its fall rhythm, and it is worth understanding whether you are thinking about a move this year or next spring.

According to the Northwest Multiple Listing Service, homes and condos that closed in Pierce County in August 2026 sold at a median price of $589,000, up from $580,000 in August 2025. There were 977 closed sales, down from 1,040 a year earlier, and homes averaged 40 days on market.

Inventory is the real story. Pierce County ended August with 3,249 active listings compared to 2,682 at the same point last year. That works out to 3.33 months of inventory, which is still one of the tightest counts in the entire NWMLS service area, but it is noticeably more selection than buyers have had in several years. Across the full NWMLS region, active listings were up 22 percent year over year.

What that means in plain English: prices are holding, buyers finally have room to think and negotiate, and sellers cannot coast on what the neighbor got three years ago. The homes that sit are the ones priced on 2022 memories. The homes that sell are priced on what actually closed last month.

Fall is also a quieter season with more motivated people on both sides. Fewer buyers are looking, but the ones out there in the rain are serious. Same goes for sellers who listed in September and are still on the market.

Thinking about a move?

If you are at the barn on the 30th and it turns into a conversation about what your house is worth, find me. I am usually there.
